Review | The Body Is Not An Apology
Make it stand out
I’ll be honest.
It’s not easy to write a review about ‘The Body Is Not an Apology’. It’s packed with important information that will make you think a lot. About society, your own relationship with your body, how you view other bodies. And I think you must read it twice to let it all sink in. That is what I did anyway.
The Body Is Not An Apology is basically a guide towards radical self-love. Sounds simple but it isn’t. According to the book there is a major difference between self-love, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
It offers radical self-love as the balm to heal the wounds inflicted by oppressive systems. World-renowned activist and poet Sonya Renee Taylor invites us to reconnect with the radical origins of our minds and bodies and celebrate our collective, enduring strength.
The book has five chapters, each chapter offers Radical Reflections and Unapologetic Inquiries to think about what you’ve just read and how it influences your own beliefs and life now.
For example, Unapologetic Inquiry #2 asks if you can recall an occasion when you compared yourself to someone, and how did it impact your self-esteem and confidence, and how did it impact the ideas about the other person?
I highly recommend this book for everyone who wants to learn more about the systems we live in and more important, who wants to unlearn everything we are taught.
